Unusual Animals of Samburu and Shaba
Samburu and Shaba are relatively small reserves and animals are easily seen. You will encounter some rare and endemic species here: Reticulated giraffe are different from their southern cousins and are the only race of giraffes with the perfectly formed patchwork of thin lines separating dark patches. They are only found in the north-east of Kenya.

Grevy's zebras resemble asses with wide stripes that don't quite make it under the belly and are confined to northern Kenya. Gerenuk gained the name 'giraffe necked antelope' because of their ridiculously stretched necks adapted for browsing high into the bushes. One cute little creature that seems to pop up under every bush is the dik dik - a dwarf antelope devoted to its mate for its entire lifetime.
