The public areas at each of the camps have awe-inspiring views of the crater below and beyond and include a central dining area, lounge and curio shop. An outdoor dining and/or viewing deck has been suspended seemingly above the crater rim and captures the renowned breathtaking African sunsets over the crater. Each of the lounges has a wonderful selection of books and wildlife magazines.
Activities include scheduled morning or afternoon game drives in the Ngorongoro Crater in closed game viewing vehicles. Additional activities available at and additional cost and subject to availability of vehicles include visits to Olduvai Gorge, Shifting Sands or a Maasai village. Lake Eyasi Sundowners (provided at an additional rate):
- The Guests are taken to the sundowner spot by their Driver Guides
- The site is spectacular and overlooks Lake Eyasi - it boasts magnificent views & the sunsets are remarkable
- It can be quite cold as the sun goes down - so gusts are encouraged to bring their jackets
- On arrival the guests are met with warm, rose petal towels
- The Crater Lodge sets up brightly coloured shukka's on the grass - with cushions for comfort.
- A table is set; complete with roses, with Bloody Mary's, Gin & tonics, white & red wine.
- Snacks are served - crispy prawns, mixed African root chips, popadums & dips
- The guests are served cocktails & snacks while watching the sunset behind the hills.
- When the sun has set - guests are escorted back to the Lodge.
Maasai Evening (at an additional rate):The Maasai of Tanzania still live very much as they did thousands of years ago, herding cattle, sheep, goats, and existing in harmony with their peaceful environment. The beauty and strength of this culture, the Vitality of these people, their unique traditions and rituals, has inspired the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge when creating African theatre for guests! In the distance a chanting can be heard - the guests have been gathered around fires on the North Camp lawn. Maasai Morani and Siangikies line the pathway from North Camp to South Camp - their flares illuminating the path for the guests to follow. The Maasai perform on the South Camp lawn - they incorporate song & dance into all their ceremonies. The jumping competition begins - 'en'du'ma'taa' - the Morani compete while the women sing. |
