Zimbabwe – Land Of Thundering Waters And Wildlife

The Zimbabwe Ruins

Zimbabwe is landlocked in the middle of Mozambique, Botswana, South Africa and Zambia. Most of the country is elevated on a plateau 900m above sea level, resulting in a mild climate. The great Zambezi River forms its northern frontier. It is here that the most impressive wildlife sanctuaries and dramatic landscapes lie. Zimbabwe is perhaps most famous for the Victoria Falls, one of Africa's most thrilling spectacles. 'The smoke that thunders' is the world's largest curtain of falling water and is almost 2km wide.

Twelve percent of Zimbabwe is set aside for conservation. The biggest conservation area is the nearby Hwange National Park, with the greatest concentration of game of all parks in Zimbabwe. Over 400 bird species and 100 animal species are to be found.  Blessed with a good infrastructure and road network, Zimbabwe offers fishing, water-skiing and boating on the man-made Lake Kariba, hiking in the rolling Eastern Highlands and walking through the balancing boulders of the Matopos.

Or you can explore the impressive ancient ruins of Great Zimbabwe, (the 'house of stone') from which the country gets its name. Zimbabwe is home to the grand Victoria Falls. Described by David Livingstone as 'scenes so lovely must have been gazed on by angels in their flight' Zimbabwe also has so much more to offer as anyone who has been to Lake Kariba, the Eastern Highlands or the mysterious ruins of Great Zimbabwe, will gladly testify.
