Explore Namibia's unspoilt beauty, diversity and fascinating vastness on your own

Days 7 & 8: Swakopmund

Swakopmund, Namibia’s premier coastal resort, is home to the luxurious Swakopmund Hotel & Entertainment Centre. The hotel has been built in and around the old station building, which has been immaculately restored to its former glory.   From the light and airy reception area to its 90 spacious rooms and suites the hotel combines hospitality, service and style

The bedrooms are built around a courtyard with palm trees, fountains and outdoor swimming pool.  Each room is tastefully decorated and has a mini bar, air conditioning, television, tea/coffee facilities, direct dial telephone, hair dryer and bathroom with bath, shower and toilet.  The Victorian style Platform One Restaurant offers an a la carte menu and specialty buffet.

The fully equipped casino and extensive Entertainment Centre incorporates a cinema, a video arcade and specialty shopping. The Captain’s Tavern restaurant specializes in seafood, and there are also a variety of fast food.  It is a comfortable walk from the hotel to either the beach or the centre of town. Together with the quaint charm of Swakopmund, the stark contrast between sea and desert and the haunting open spaces this hotel definitely has plenty to offer.

Days 9 & 10: Sossusvlei

Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge is situated in the heart of the Namib Desert on the farm Vreemdelingspoort, which is one of 11 farms that make up the NamibRand Nature Reserve. This pristine reserve, one of the largest in Africa, is a massive 180,000 hectares and shares a common border of some 110km with the Namib-Naukluft Park in the west and is protected by the Nubib mountain range in the east.

Days 9 & 10: Continued...

The special attraction of the NamibRand is the captivating beauty and diversity of its landscape, which changes from expansive gravel plains to undulating dune seas, rugged canyons with towering walls of volcanic rock and distant mountain ranges.  Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge is a truly magnificent lodge. Only 20 guests are accommodated in ten twin bedded suites, built into natural rock at the foot of a mountain overlooking an expansive Namib gravel plain that leads into a sea of red dunes.
