About twenty million years ago, the length of Africa was cleaved by great subterranean forces, the result being The Great Rift Valley. The most wonderful viewpoints are along the roadside heading north out of Nairobi, close to Nakuru.

Mt Kenya

When a German missionary reported a snow-capped mountain 10 miles south of the equator in 1833, nobody believed him. It wasn't until 1849 that its existence was confirmed, and then another 50 years before the 16,900-foot summit was conquered.
