Balloon Safaris

A balloon safari across the Masai Mara plains is an adventure of a lifetime - not to be missed.  After rising just before dawn, guests are transported to the balloon launch site where tea and coffee are served as the crew fires up the burners and inflate the balloons ready for take-off.  As the first rays of sunlight flicker across the sky, the balloons take off across the vast Mara plains and guests get their first glimpse of the early morning animal activity, taking place beneath them.
For approximately an hour the balloons glide through the sky in whatever direction the air currents dictate and upon returning to earth (sometimes the most exhilarating part of the adventure), a champagne breakfast is served.  Once breakfast is finished, a leisurely game drive back to the lodge completes the experience. Balloon safaris are best booked well in advance due to the popularity of them.  In the high season guests could well be disappointed if they wait until getting to the lodge to book.

Fishing on Lake Victoria

For fishing enthusiasts this is a nice opportunity to fish for Nile Perch in the world's second largest fresh water lake.  Guests can either do an overnight stay at Rusinga Island Camp in between nights in the Masai Mara or alternatively just do a day trip from the lodge that they are staying at.  Guests are collected by Rusinga Island Camp in a charter aircraft fairly early in the morning and flown to Rusinga Island Camp located on a small island in Lake Victoria.  Guests can fish at their leisure, have lunch and then return to the lodge in the Mara in the late afternoon.
