Outspan Hotel, Nyeri (Aberdares)

Outspan is situated in the town of Nyeri in the Aberdares, it is a gracious solid and comfortable hotel set in a well tended tropical garden with rolling lawns. The 44 rooms are spacious and airy, most with fireplaces and garden access. The eight rooms in the Chania wing are wood paneled with a fireplace, balcony, satellite television and minibar.
The remaining rooms also with garden access are older in style, reminiscent of the 1920s with large bathrooms, a legacy from Colonial days.
The majority of the rooms have baths only while 11 have both a bath and a shower. Breakfast and lunch are taken on a wide veranda with views of Mount Kenya. In the evening dinner is served in a baronial style dining room complete with parquet floors, Chippendale chairs and white linen. The furnishings and fabrics in the comfortable lounges and public rooms are particularly tasteful.

After lunch you can visit the Kikuyu Village in the grounds of the hotel where authentically dressed Kikuyus perform traditional dances and songs. There is a bird walk at 7am and a river walk at 10am that should not be missed. Your guide will identify the flora that grows on the banks of the Chania River, the highlights of which are the massive five hundred year old Mugumo Tree and a waterfall gorge where the river squeezes between black rocks.
Within the 30 acres of the Outspan there is a swimming pool, squash and tennis courts and a snooker room. In addition guests are welcome to use the challenging 18-hole Nyeri Golf Course next door to the hotel. The two conference rooms each take 70 delegates comfortably and make an ideal venue for meetings. Excursions such as visits to a coffee farm and the nearby Chania Falls, fishing expeditions to Lake Naivasha and Lake Nukuru or game drives in the Salient, Solio and Samburu game parks can be arranged at an additional cost. The Landmark Hotel, Nairobi

The Landmark is a well-equipped comfortable garden hotel in the heart of the Westland's, a suburb of Nairobi. Its location avoids the noise and bustle of the city yet the charms and attractions of the city remain accessible. Nairobi Hilton, Nairobi

Nairobi Hilton is located in the central business and shopping area of Nairobi, well situated for access to the Nairobi National Park, the Great Rift Valley and other places of interest. The hotel is situated 18 km from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. There are 302 rooms each having an en suite bathroom with bath and shower, air-conditioning, safe, TV, telephone, mini bar and hairdryer. The public facilities include four restaurants, a pub, a coffee shop, a hair and beauty salon, an outdoor heated swimming pool and a health club with a gymnasium, jacuzzi, sauna and steam bath.

The hotel also offers massage therapy. The ballroom and meeting rooms can host up to 500 people and a wide range of conference facilities and business service centre are available. Mayfair Court Holiday Inn, Nairobi

The Mayfair Court Holiday Inn is set in 12 acres of lush, landscaped gardens and only 25 minutes from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Norfolk Hotel, Nairobi

The Norfolk Hotel is one of Nairobi's oldest hotels, opened on Christmas Day of 1904. The Stanley, Nairobi

Situated in the heart of Nairobi's city centre and only 20 minutes from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, The Stanley is one of Nairobi's oldest hotels being opened in 1902. The spacious foyer, with it's marble floors, leather furniture, and antique brass and wrought iron fittings, recalls a graceful era of fine furnishings, grand living and Victorian elegance. Nairobi Serena, Nairobi

Nairobi Serena Hotel is situated on the outskirts of Nairobi's Central Park, shaded by jacaranda, bougainvillea and acacia trees. Giraffe Manor, Nairobi suburbs

Giraffe Manor was built in 1932 and is situated on 120 acres of forested land just eight miles out of Kenya's capital, Nairobi. In 1974 Jock Leslie-Melville bought the house and the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (A.F.E.W) was founded. The new owners of the house translocated five babies of the highly endangered Rothschild's giraffe and began, for the fist time in history, to breed them successfully. When Jock died the old colonial style house was opened to the public as Giraffe Manor. The house consists of a dining room, bar and lounge.

There are five bedrooms, four of which have en suite bathrooms and guests can chose between double and twin beds. The Rothschild's giraffes casually wonder around the grounds of Giraffe Manor, sometimes accompanied by warthogs, guests are invited to feed them and take photographs. The African Fund for Endangered Wildlife has a visitors centre on the same property, it main aim is to educate people, primarily school children, about animals and the environment. This centre is separate from the Manor and day visitors do not go near the house although guests from the house are welcome to visit the centre.

Windsor Golf & Country Club, outskirts of Nairobi

A mere 15-minute drive from Nairobi's city centre in a peaceful, rural setting is the Windsor Golf Club. On a clear day  the snow capped peaks of Mount Kenya can be seen to the north. The Windsor Golf and Country Club is an ideal golfing and conference destination as well as a base for a Kenyan safari. The Country Room is the main dining area where all meals are served, but other venues include the Conservatory by the poolside and the elegant Windsor Room. A variety of indoor and outdoor venues are available for cocktails, conferences and banquets. There are 130 rooms available in three types of accommodation; the deluxe rooms, studio suites and cottages.

All rooms overlook the golf course and have a TV, safe, 24-hour room service and a spacious en suite bathroom with a shower. Whitesands, Mombasa North Coast

Whitesands is situated on the north of Mombasa amidst the swaying palms and fragrant frangipani trees. The public area of the resort has been influenced by Arabic architecture and has four restaurants, four bars, a discotheque, a games room, a variety of shops and a hairdressing salon. Conference facilities are available for up to 400 delegates. The resort has 332 bedrooms, two presidential suites and six luxury suites. All rooms have an en suite bathroom and shower, private balcony, direct dial telephone, air-conditioning, mosquito net and an in room safe.

There are 70 deluxe superior rooms and two presidential suites with satellite TV.  Recreational facilities include a fully equipped health club, water sports such as surfing, snorkeling, swimming pools and waterslides, four floodlit tennis courts, video shows and table tennis. Scuba diving and deep-sea fishing can be arranged at an additional cost. The animation team arranges team activities such as volleyball and water polo. Golf is available nearby. Mombasa Serena, Mombasa North Coast

Voyager Beach Club, Mombasa North Coast

Situated 7km (4.3 miles) north of the coastal capital of Mombasa, the Voyager Beach Club is set on the powder white sands of Silver Beach. Hidden in the shade of swaying palms and touched by the warm Indian Ocean, the Voyager Beach Club has been designed with escapism, excitement and entertainment in mind. There are three restaurants to choose from; the main dining room referred to as the Dhow Room, the Cave Restaurant, a small à la carte restaurant and The Deck Restaurant serving Italian cuisine. Adjacent to the reception is the Lamu Lounge and not far from that are the Captain Hook's Coffee Bar and Cyber Café.

The resort also has four bars, three swimming pools, a beauty salon, a fitness centre, a shopping mall, games rooms, tennis courts and babysitting. There are 240 twin cabins of which 130 look directly onto the beach while the remainder enjoy green views of the pools and gardens. Families can be accommodated in eight inter-leading rooms. All of the rooms have an en suite bathroom with shower only facilities, air conditioning, a mosquito net if requested, a TV and private verandah. A safe and mini bar can be rented on a per night basis. The suites have a ceiling fan, TV, mini bar, safe and private lounge.  The more active and adventurous guests can indulge in a variety of water sports including, sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, peddle-boating, jet skiing and at an additional cost scuba diving and deep-sea fishing.

Kipungani Bay, Lamu Island

Kipungani Bay Lamu is situated at the end of a 12km (7.4 miles) crescent beach on the southwestern tip of Lamu Island. Directly across the bay is mainland Kenya. The main building houses the dining room and bar area. The gardens are attractive and there is salt-water swimming pool. There is a large banda off the main pathway, which houses the gift shop and office. There are 15 bandas scattered in front of 25 acres of coconut plantation. The walls of the bandas are made of mikeka and the roof of makuki, all woven by the local villagers of the nearby Kipungani and Matondoni. The bandas are simply furnished with comfortable sun lounges on the private verandah, a mosquito net and an en suite bathroom with a cold water shower. The resort offers sunset Dhow cruises, creek and reef fishing, snorkeling and skiing.

Peponi Hotel, Lamu Island

Peponi is a small hotel on the exotic island of Lamu, in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Kenya. The island is very simple and way behind with regard to the modern world, for example no cars exist on the island and the narrow streets are just enough the let one fully laden donkey past. The dining area is as flexible as the time at which it is served, there is an indoor dining room and terrace but guests may eat outside at the grill where they can bury their feet into the soft white sand.

There are a total of 24 rooms at Peponi, are divided into superior and standard. All rooms have ocean views.
