The accommodation consists of three spacious and uniquely designed cottages, elegantly built using traditional styles, local stone, papyrus and wood. All cottages have a double fireplace, with open private verandahs, spacious bathrooms with double beds. Throughout The Retreat, Swahili and Lamu furniture features prominently, supported by pieces hand hewn by local craftsmen. The Retreat offers a wide range of activities including; nature walks, game drives, bird-watching, horseback and camel rides, picnics, fishing and swimming in one of the waterfall pools.
It has recently become possible for guests to have a glimpse of the local Pokot people and their ceremonies and dances. All available activities are included in the rate. Excursions can be arranged to destinations such as Lake Turkana and the archeological diggings at Koobi or to the Rift Valley lakes of Borgoria, Baringo and Nukuru for their flamingoes, birds and hippo's. Fishing at Lake Victoria and Mount Kenya can be organized at an additional cost. Lerai Tented Camp, LaikipiaSituated in the Laikipia region in the heart of Kenya, Lewa Downs is a 40 000 acre ranch, home to a diverse array of wildlife and some of Kenya's most spectacular scenery. The snowcapped peaks of Mount Kenya dominate the views to the south, and to the north, the terrain drops away rapidly with breathtaking views of Samburu, Olokwe and the Matthew's Range beyond. Lerai Tented Camp is a permanent camp with discreet and comfortable tents placed on raised platforms. The main area of the camp accommodates the dining area, bar, curio shop, kitchen and barbecue area, it overlooks a waterhole and is the central point from which the tents spread out on either side. There are 12 tents with twin and double options, two of which are slightly larger to accommodate families. All of the tents have 24-hour electricity, en suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water, a shower and a flush toilet. The camp offers day and night game drives, nature walks and escorted rhino tracking. Other excursions offered include camel and cultural safaris, Chalbi Desert and Lake Turkana flying safaris and fly-fishing trips to Mount Kenya. Lake Naivasha Country Club, Lake NaivashaThe old colonial architecture of Lake Naivasha Country Club is solid and comfortable with accommodation in cottages. It is set on the banks of Lake Naivasha in 12 hectares of green lawns shaded by mature acacias and spreading fever trees. There are 51 standard cottages with the typical colonial style of the 1930's when the hotel was built. The public rooms are elegant and cool. The residents' lounge has a massive fireplace and large bay windows. The bar is cosy and adjoins an immaculately equipped snooker room. |
